Sunday November 20 marked the adoption of the “Declaration of the Rights of the Child” (1959) and the “International Convention on the Rights of the Child” (1989).
Let’s remind ourselves of 5 fundamental principles that we respect every day as early childhood professionals:
– Non-discrimination
– The best interests of the child
– The right to grow
– The right to be heard
– The right to education
Both in Switzerland and elsewhere, the 54 articles that make up this convention are not always respected. It’s our duty as adults, professionals and parents to enable children to grow up in the best possible conditions.
