We’re delighted to announce that, from the beginning of 2023, our crèches will become Born to Read ambassador crèches, anchoring the important place of books in their pedagogical projects and in their day-to-day work with children.

The Born to Read project is a cantonal initiative, launched in 2008, to create contact with books for all children, as well as guaranteeing fair access for families.

Books are a vehicle for sharing with adults, discovering new languages and meeting others. It allows creativity and imagination to take center stage. The Born to Read project sees language development as a key issue for children’s future, as Babilou Suisse considers children to be tomorrow’s citizens. During childhood, every discovery is first and foremost a sensory and relational one. The book responds to this by appealing to different senses. It becomes a real source of exploration. Secondly, the book will give the child access to languages, a more developed vocabulary, and then to writing as soon as he or she starts school.

The bonds shared during reading time with adults meet the need for emotional and psychological security, and enable children to make sense of their experiences and emotions. As part of this partnership, our day-nurseries are committed to exploring and setting up projects and encounters around the awakening of children to books.

We look forward to sharing further information on this subject with you over the coming months, and remain at your disposal for further information.
